This week we learned about letter Nn. We read about Naughty Newt who painted his name on the wall with nail polish!! We talked about being naughty and nice and we decided it is always best to be the nice! We were nice to our bird friend and made him a nest so he could take a nap.
Jaycee brought nest treats....little sticks (pretzels) that everyone dipped in peanut butter. And chocolate eggs too!! Thanks Jaycee!!
We sorted noodles with capital and lowercase letter Nn at circle time.
We had fun making noodle faces!! The kids thought this was so silly!! :)
Emma brought Nemo snacks for letter Nn and applesauce too! Thanks for being so NNNice Emma! :)
Well the kids are always excited when they get to go upstairs to cook in the kitchen! It cracks me up.....like they have never seen a house before!! Jack brought everyone noodles to make!! They had to pour in their own water and mix it up and then they watched a little tv in the living room while I microwaved them. It took a little longer than I thought!! But they loved it. We played a noodle game (see the pic below) where we had to sort the capital and lowercase noodles in the correct pan. We were supposed to make silly noodle faces but we ran out of time. :/ oh well.....they seemed to enjoy the day and I think cooking noodles will help them remember letter Nn! We will try to make Noodle faces another day! Especially since I have already colored lots of pasta with food coloring!!
We read a book about different animals that build nests and all of the things they use to build them. Gradyn brought nest snacks with chocolate letter Nns!!...they were super yummy! Unfortunately I took a picture of the snack and forgot to take one of Gradyn and of our nest project!! I am so sorry!! :( We also read about our Alphabet friend....Naught Newt!! He painted his name on the wall using nail polish!! No No Naughty Newt!!
We compared different kinds of animal homes and talked about how animal homes keep them safe and dry just like our homes keep us safe too. We talked about how birds make their nests from grass and twigs. We made a paper nest by cutting strips of paper. Ava even brought nests for us to eat!! What a great idea! We practiced writing letter N and played the sorting game again to help us remember the difference between capital and lowercase letters.
Today we really focused on the difference between capital and lowercase letters. Some of them still call them Big and little letters and I am proud that they know the difference. I am just trying to get them to use the appropriate labels for the letters. Most of them were able to do this with no trouble at all!! We played a Noodle game to help us practice sorting capital and lowercase letter Nn. The students took turns picking out a paper noodle and they had to put their noodle in the Big pan if they had a capital N and the little pan if they had a lowercase n. After that we went upstairs and made us some Noodle soup!!! It was funny to watch them slurp up their noodles! We even made Noodle faces for our art projects which turned out so cute!! We talked about how noodles are crunchy before we cook them and how slimy they are after they have been cooked. We sang a noodle song and practiced writing the letter Nn.
