We had fun learning about letter Ff. We read a book about a lonely firefly. At the end of the book the firefly finds lots of friends and the page really lights up!! The kids were so excited. They wanted me to read it again!! We made a jar of fireflies and painted them with glitter so they would light up!! We also practiced writing letter Ff with a highlighter (or what I called a firefly marker!!). Finally, we practiced writing our names. We need more practice but we are making lots of progress!!
Colt brought yummy firefly cookies to share!! We had fun counting our fireflies too!!
We also talked about Farms and animals that live on farms. We read Pete the Cat's version of Old MacDonald Had a Farm. Who doesn't love Pete the Cat??!! If you have not read his books you must check them out at the library or order them from Scholastic!! Seriously my favorite book character ever!! He is so funny!! We made a farm story bag to take home too. Have your child sing Old MacDonald as they pull out the animals out of their story bags.
On Tuesday we read The Very Lonely Firefly by Eric Carle. The little firefly was searching for other fireflies to play with. There is a surprise at the end of the story. Ask your child what happened on the last page of our book. (All of the fireflies light up!) We made a firefly puppet that we added glitter to so it would "light up". We danced and sang...."This little firefly....I'm gonna let it shine" with our puppets!! We also used highlighters to trace the letter Ff. We decided it was almost as bright as a real firefly!!
Parker E. brought a yummy snack. He brought crescent rolls to dip in cheese, grapes and apple juice. We pretended the rolls were fireflies and when we dipped it in our cheese sauce our fireflies were lighting up!! Thanks Parker! :)
We also made a jar of fireflies. We practiced counting and writing our names too.
On Thursday we read about farm animals and of course we sang Old MacDonald!! We watched this cute little video too. We made a story/song sack to go along with the song. Have your child sing along!! :)
Kingston brought pumpkin cookies to share from his Grandma's bakery! Yum! We talked about all of the different crops farmers grow on their farms too. Thanks Kingston!
We read a really fun book by Eric Carle called The Very Lonely Firefly. At the end of the book the page lights up with lots of little fireflies and the kids just loved it. We turned the lights off and they wanted me to read it again and again! We practiced counting fireflies at circle time and we made a jar of fireflies using glitter paint for our craft. Tatum brought firefly crackers for snack! What a great idea Tatum! :) We also reviewed our shapes, played with our friends and worked on our handwriting.
The kids were super excited to see Kirby today! He is very sore but I think he is going to be ok. :) I know he is just a dog but he is my baby!! It was so nice to receive phone calls, emails, fb messages letting me know that everyone was thinking of him!! I especially melted when some of the kids brought Kirby pictures they drew and even some doggie treats!! Thank you sooooo much!!
We had fun singing and reading Old MacDonald had a Farm. We made a big paper barn with a farmer and animals and talked about all of the things that happen on a farm. We played farm bingo and practiced writing letter Ff. Gradyn brought pigs for snack!! They were so adorable!! The pigs were actually cake pops. The kids had fun dipping their pigs in the mud! (chocolate pudding) Thanks Gradyn!
Today we read The Very Lonely Firefly by Eric Carle. The last page of the book has a very special surprise. . . .we turned off the lights and watched all of the fireflies light up!! We talked about catching fireflies and keeping them in a jar. We made paper fireflies with glitter lights and put them in a paper jar. We tried to think of other words that start with letter Ff. We practiced writing the letter Ff. We used a yellow marker so we could light up the tracing letters just like fireflies! Ava brought firefly snacks to eat. They were super cute!! I had to convince some of the kids to eat them because they didn't want to take their firefly apart because they liked it so much!! We decided to make wings for them so they could play with them at home. :) Thanks Ava!! The fireflies were fabulous!!
Finally, we played farm bingo one more time. I have some really good listeners!! Sorry there wasn't a newsletter this week. I ran out of ink and didn't realize it until after I typed it up and hit print at 10pm last night!! Have a good weekend!! Remember to have your child practice writing their name please!!!!! :)
Today we read Mrs. Wishy Washy's Farm and talked about all of the different animals you might see on a farm. Then we talked about all of the sounds you might hear on a farm. We sang Old MacDonald had a farm and we played Farm Listening Bingo. . . .they loved this!! I have a CD with animal sounds and they have to find the picture of the animal that makes that sound on their Bingo Card. We will definitely be playing this again on Thursday! They were really good listeners. Jansen brought Pigs in a Blanket and milk for us to eat. . . . so we had lots of mooing and oinking going on!! :) We colored a farm picture and talked about all of the animals in our pictures and finally we talked about same and different. We will continue to work on Letter F on Thursday.
