Today we learned about letter Aa and the sound that it makes.  We read a little story about an alligator who gets angry at an ant that took away his apple.  These alphabet stories are designed to teach children using sound and motion.  Your child will learn a motion for every letter of the alphabet in hopes that it will help them remember the sound for each letter.  Ask your child to tell you what A the alligator says..../a/, /a/, /a/!
We practiced using our scissors and cut a worm out to put on our apple paper.  Thank you so much for continuing to practice at home!!

Meredith brought Applejacks and applesauce to share with everyone!!  What a great idea to go with our theme today!!  Thanks Meredith!

We did our very first tracing paper today to help us write the letter A.  This will take a few times to practice to get the hang of it but we will be doing this a lot in preschool.  Tracing is a great fine motor skill and we can all use the practice.  Everyone had fun putting little apple stickers on the capital and lowercase A's as well.  They definitely had lots of fine motor practice today!!

Today we read about an alligator who was angry at ant for taking his apple!  When A the alligator is angry he says...."a", "a", "a"! (and we shake our fists like we are angry!)  The story series that I use is called The Amazing Action Alphabet.  I love it because it is a great tool to teach letters and sounds.  The students learn by seeing, hearing and doing the action of each letter and it's sound.  The kids love it and it is really amazing how fast they learn their sounds.  Even for those children that can actually name the letter A....when they see it they can almost always tell me the sound and the action because they associate the letters with the stories.  Here is a picture of A the Alligator.

We painted alligators today and traced capital and lowercase letter Aa.  Please help your child hold their writing utensil correctly and practice tracing their name.  Thanks again for your help!!  I will try to send home our name practice papers next week.

Kingston brought alligator cupcakes and apple juice for snack today!!  We can hear the "a" sound in both of our treats!!  Thanks Kingston!!  Check out Kingston's shirt.....even though it says t-rex....we think it looks like an alligator!!
We had fun playing outside on the new swings too!  I am loving this weather!!  Evie is showing two of the books we read today.

I wanted to share a couple of the songs we sang today.  I love using YouTube in the classroom!!

We read The Adventures of Abby Alligator and painted alligators today.  We also learned a silly song about five little monkey who were teasing Mr. Alligator.  Ask your child what happens to those little monkeys!!  We  worked on listening for the letter Aa sound.  We colored pictures that started with Aa.  Jansen brought Alligator sandwiches for everyone to eat!  How fun is that??  Thanks Jansen!  We went outside to play. . . I am loving this weather!  Finally, we finished our day by writing our names.  Some of the children that can write their name are using all capital letters.  I sent home the name paper so that you can see the way I want them to write it at school.  We will be practicing this a lot.  If you notice your child is struggling it would be great if you could practice this at home too!  If your child has mastered their first name during our writing time I will be having them work on other letters or even their last name.

We read about our new Alphabet Friend Apple Annie today.  She taught us the sound that A makes.  We learned a song to help us remember the sound too.  Click on the link below to listen to the song.  We worked on our fine motor skills by doing a tracing paper and we painted apples today too.  We learned an Apple Tree poem with movements.  See how much your child remembers. . . . .
Way up high in the apple tree
Two little apples smiled at me.
I shook that tree just as hard as I could
And down came the apples. . .
                                 Mmmm.  They were good!
Ava brought apples and caramel to eat for snacks today!!  It was so cute to hear them eating their apples and singing their Apple Annie song!  I just love it when they make a learning connection!  Thanks Ava for helping us learn about letter Aa today!

Click below to listen to our Apple Annie song. . . .
