Today we talked again about our classroom rules and how we are supposed to "BEE"have at preschool. ;)  It will take us a few more weeks to get the hang of it but we are making progress.  We read a cute story about a bumblebee who always tries her best even though it is not always easy.  We made our Busy Bee class books about what we will do at preschool.  Be sure to have your child read his/her book to you and have them show you the very special picture inside!!  We made a bee hive and practiced cutting out two bumble bees.  This was extremely difficult for some of the students.  I really, REALLY need your help at home!!  Please have your child practice using scissors at home.  Draw large shapes for them to cut out and have them concentrate on cutting on the lines.  Be sure they are gripping their scissors correctly.  I always say...fingers on the bottom, thumb on the top, open, close them, chop, chop, chop.    Thank you in advance for your help!!
Check out our pictures from today....Jaycee and her mommy made the cutest bumblebee cookies to go with our story!!  She was so excited to pass them out!  Parker is holding up his beehive project!!  We had fun gluing on HoneyCombs cereal.  I think they ate more than they put on their projects!!  I even caught one student eating it off of her project glue and all!!  I think it was only two pieces thank goodness!!  Let me tell you.....they keep me busy!!  I think I need a nap today! LOL!

Today we read two different stories about Bumble Bees and how busy they are.  One of the books explained that  bumble bees are really small in size compared to the work that they do.  I tried to make the comparison to my own little bees....I explained to them that they may be small but they can do big things....like being a good student at preschool.  I guess this was NOT a good comparison because they all told me they were NOT little anymore...Babies are little!!  I guess they told me!   After I was put in my place we moved on to our Bee craft.  The students had to color, cut and paste.  Sounds easy, huh??  Well trust me it is not...especially our second week of school but they did GREAT!!  I was so proud of them.  It is amazing how quickly they learn!  Everyone tried their best and didn't give up and that was the big lesson I was trying to teach today.  Even when things seem tough we need to be Busy Bees!!  We learned the correct way to hold our scissors. (fingers on the bottom, thumb on top, open wide and chop, chop chop)  Please review scissor rules at home....We do not cut hair or clothes.  Scissors are for cutting paper only.  We also worked on the proper way to use our glue sticks. YES...there is a proper way!! ;)  We have to give our glue sticks a tiny twist being careful not to twist too much...and when we are finished we have to twist it back down and give the cap a click!  We even practiced listening for the click!!  Then we had to practice following directions, putting our hands in our laps and keeping our eyes on Mrs. Manning.  See what I mean....not easy...because it takes forever to get through one little craft!!  The students glued Honey Combs cereal pieces on a beehive...well, I think they ate way more than they actually glued on their projects!! :)  As you can see, they worked a lot on their fine motor skills.  We also worked on our Busy Bee Preschool book and talked about all of the things we will do through out the year.
Snack time was a big hit today!!  Gabriella and her mommy made the cutest Busy Bee juice boxes ever!!  They also brought yummy flower cookies with a little bee on top.  Gabby passed out yellow napkins for her flowers to sit on.  She was so proud!!  Check out the shirt she wore to school today!!!  ADORABLE!!  I want that in my size! :)

Today we talked a lot about being a Busy Bee!  We reviewed our school rules and talked about everything a busy bee must do to get a green day.  Then we talked about real bees and how very busy they are too!  We read several books about bees and made a honeycomb beehive.  I think they ate way more cereal than what they put on their projects!!  We also made a bee book that reinforces colors and positional words.  Several of the students are able to read this on their own using the picture clues!!  I was so proud of them!  I sent home a scissor practice page for you to help your child with this weekend.  If you have time please have them cut coupons of shapes that you draw on a piece of paper.  We really need to practice staying on the lines and cutting circles too.  Thanks for your help!!
