![]() We read The Big Wide Mouthed Frog and made a big wide mouthed frog of our own!! We learned a frog song and read lots of interesting facts about frogs. Ask your child to tell you something they learned about frogs. Emma brought lots of fun snacks for us to eat. She brought "Frog" cereal, flies (raisins), and fruit roll ups!! Thanks Emma!! ![]() F is for Fall!! We read The Shy Scarecrow and talked about the different signs of Fall. We went on a nature walk and found different signs of Fall. We found cat tails (Jaycee asked who shot the cat??!! I about died but didn't want to laugh!!) Needless to say, I had to explain that it was a plant and not a "REAL" cat!! We found acorns and leaves, a feather, a nest and lots of other fun things. Kirby even joined in on the fun!! We made some super cute scarecrows!! Sorry.....I just couldn't send them home!! I had to hang them up in our classroom!! Whenever I see them they just make me smile!! Kingston brought us some of his grandma's famous sugar cookies. We had fun finding the letter F on our cookies. Thanks Kingston!!

![]() We continued to work on letter Ff. We read the story There was an old lady who swallowed a fly. We also sang the song. The kids thought this book was so silly! We did an activity where the students had to recall everything the old lady swallowed and we made a project too. We played the name game...as you can see nobody in our class has a letter Ff in their name!! We also sang our color word songs and finished making our orange book. We had buddy reading time and we also played some counting games. ![]() We read a silly book called The Big Wide-Mouthed Frog. This frog thought he was quite special and he liked to brag....that is until he met up with a crocodile. I love to listen to the kids laugh when I read a story. It is so rewarding to know that they are really engaged during our lessons. We made a silly frog craft too! They loved making the really long tongue so the frog could eat his fly!! We learned a little song to sing too... (to the tune of Farmer in the Dell) The frog lives in the pond. His tongue is oh so long. It reaches high to catch the fly. The frog lives in the pond. We worked on numbers and color words too. I think I am going to have lots of readers this year!! Woot! Woot!
If you want to practice at home that would be great!! Just write the following words on plain index cards and have your child practice whenever they like. Don't force it. We want them to enjoy this.....not dread it every time they see you with flashcards! ;) I have had a few parents ask for a list of words we are working on. We call them our Buzz words. These are words that are in our little reading books we make each week. We keep these books at school to read to our reading buddies. Now they are asking to read their books during play time!! Yes.....you heard me!!! Reading instead of playing......Amazing!! We will continue to add words to our list when we have new words in our little readers. a, at, red, orange, black, I, is, the, see, blue, look ![]() We read our Alphatale story Funny Fish and learned the song too. We counted and sorted fish, we made a fish craft and we practiced writing letter Ff. We had pretzel sticks today and dipped them in peanut butter and went fishing for goldfish crackers! Needless to say, they had fun eating their snacks today!
![]() We read one of my favorite silly stories today...There was an old lady who swallowed a fly. We also made our own version of the story that we will be bringing home soon. I like to keep it at school so we can practice retelling the story to our friends. Izzy Lopez brought Old Lady treat sacks and fly cookies too!! Thanks Izzy for the ffffabulous snacks! We had lots of ffffun learning about letter FFF!! ![]() Today we read about our new Alphabet friend Funny Fish. We made our own funny fish in his fish bowl too. We practiced writing letter Ff and worked on writing our numbers using the dry erase boards. We have been going to buddy stations where students work on different centers with a buddy. It is amazing to see the cooperation that is going on in our classroom!! I am one proud teacher!! After about a month of going to buddy stations the students really become independent and I can start working with groups and individuals that are ready to move on to reading or help them if they are struggling with something. I really love getting to spend one on one time with my students. ![]() We read about frogs and learned all kinds of interesting facts about them. We learned a cute little song too.... The Frog Lives in the Pond (sung to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell) The frog lives in the pond. His tongue is oh so long. It reaches high To catch a fly. The frog lives in the pond. We made a cute little frog with a long tongue and if you open it's mouth you will find a fly inside!! Jansen and his mom made the cutest frogs out of apples!! They brought two kinds of dip for the apples too! Thanks Jansen!! I thought these frogs were fffffantastic!! :) ![]() Well.....the fireman was unable to come to preschool today because he was sick. He is going to try to reschedule. We still talked a little about fire safety and read a book about the fire station. We even watched Fireman Sam on tv while we ate Isabella's fire truck cookies!! Thanks Isabella! We worked in our poetry folders on our letter Ee poem too. Don't forget to wear something orange on Monday! We had a fun day finishing up letter Ff on Friday. Your kids helped me with a little project I had!! My niece Devan turned 16 and her party was supposed to be on Sunday but her mom got called in to work. . . . so needless to say she was in a panic and had to reschedule the party on Friday. She needed help with decorations so I put the Busy Bees to work!! We cut out lots and lots of purple and black flowers and made a garland for her party! They were so excited to help!! And everyone loved the party decorations!! Devan sent the flowers back and we are planning on making necklaces with them someday soon. We finished up our fish projects and practiced writing letter Ff too.
Every year I get the same response...........The kids love this story!! They think it is so silly. We made old ladies and cut out their mouths. We colored and cut all of the characters in the story. . . . and then we fed the old lady of course!!! To top it off Nick brought flies for us to eat too!! EEEWWWW! They turned out to be the yummiest flies we ever ate!! Thanks Nick!! Needless to say, we did our story bag a few times so we didn't get our handwriting lesson done or our fish from Monday done!! We did work on a few new songs that we are learning that help us spell the days of the week. I guess we will catch up on everything and wrap up letter Ff on Friday!! Sometimes I just want to keep your kids all day long!! They are such a fun group. . . and they are all so eager to learn!! Click on the play button below to hear The Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly!! Have your child sing it for you while they manipulate their story bag!! Have fun! :) |
