We read a cute story about an Elephant and made our letter Ee books to keep at school in our reading box. I had to share what a few of my boys did today at center time. There are tons of toys to choose from....trains, legos, blocks, etc....but instead they chose to go to the writing table and write me letters for my mailbox!! OK.....seriously.....don't you just love it???!!! Choosing to write over playing with toys??!! I love teaching and I love trying to make learning fun so they do make these choices!! Check out Jack's handwriting.... Pretty good, huh?! All of the students love to make something for me to put in my mailbox but I told them it can not be delivered unless it has my name on it and who it is from. (I am pretty sneaky about it but they are getting lots of practice and they don't even know it!! hee!)
Ella brought the cutest elephant cookies from our favorite bakery The Mixing Bowl!! Sorry...but I couldn't resist a shout out to my good friend Mary Bertram!! ;) When Ella was passing out her cookies the kids were shouting...."Hey Ella, your name starts with E just like elephant!!" Aren't they smart??!! Thanks Ella for the fun snack! :)
We read a story about shapes and then we sorted shapes at circle time. Finally, we did a worksheet where we had to find all of the triangles.
Ella brought me this adorable pumpkin today!! Isn't her mommy crafty??!! Thank you so much for making me feel special today!! :)
We read a book about different animals that hatch from eggs. I gave the students clues so they could guess the animals. They love playing guessing games! We made a list of words that start with Ee and practiced our handwriting. Below you can see the students cutting out egg shapes. They had to color the eggs with pictures that started with E and put glue them to the hen's nest. You can see how busy they are!! I love watching them work! :)
Trenton and his mommy made rice krispy treats and put them inside of plastic eggs!! The kids were so excited to open the eggs!! I love how Trenton painted the egg cartons and check out the E on top!! Thanks for the extraordinary snack Trenton!!
We played a counting game and read the book One Little Egg.
We did one of our favorite activities.....Buddy reading!!
And we practiced graphing today!!
Today we read about our Alphatale Friend....Elmo the Elephant. We also learned about our Action Alphabet Friend E the Elephant who like to exercise. To do the action you pretend to be lifting weights up in the air while saying /e/, /e/, /e/. We played the alphabet guessing game where I give students clues to try and figure out the pictures that go on our abc pocket chart. We practiced writing letter Ee. The lowercase letter is a little tricky. You may want to give them some extra practice time at home. Izzy Miles brought elephant cookies to share with everyone. They were Excellent! Thanks Izzy! We worked on our sight words and the number one.
Today we read Elmo the Elephant and learned that the letter E makes two sounds. To help the students remember the sound that E makes. . . . we call it a smiley sound. We worked on our sight word paper and played a really fun counting game. We took turns rolling the dice and counting the dots. We had to trace the number that matched our roll. Everyone took turns and picked a color for us to use on our Rainbow number paper. Raelee brought Nutter Butter cookies for snacks today. . . . . exactly what an elephant would eat!!
Don't forget to wear Orange on Friday!!
