We read the book titled Buzz, Buzz Busy Bees and counted the bees in the story. All of the animals on the farm wanted the bees to come play but the bees were too busy gathering pollen to make some honey. At the end of the book when you flip to the very last page there was a big surprise....the book started buzzing like real bees!! Of course, everyone wanted a turn to look at the book!! Anything to promote reading!! ;) We talked about the sound that B makes and practiced writing letter B as well. It is a great idea to have your child practice writing our letter of the week.
Jaycee brought the perfect "bee"snack.....Honey Combs!! The kids love cereal and it is quick and easy too!! They liked searching for the letter B's on their baggies. Good idea Jaycee!! Thanks for the snacks!! :)
We reviewed the color red and sang our red song. We talked about the things in the picture that can be red and we even learned how to write the word red!!! Pretty impressive, huh!!??
Today we read another silly Pete the Cat book about about his yellow shirt with 4 groovy buttons!! Baylor brought snacks today to go along with our story! Everyone had fun counting the m&m buttons on the rice krispy shirts!! Thanks for the GROOVY snacks today Baylor!! :) We decided to use Pete's head and button from Baylor's snack to make a project. I think they turned out super cute!
Listen to the story with your child so they can show you what they learned today!! I think you will be pretty impressed! We talked about subtraction!! Preschoolers subtracting??!! Pretty smart, huh??!! Seriously though they really did a great job with the concept of starting with a number and then taking one or more away. We played a button counting game today at circle time so they could have some hands on counting, adding and subtracting practice.

We made our letter Bb book to keep at school. We are adding Buzz words that we see in our little readers. We will continue to practice these words everyday at school and add to our list when we make our new books. You might want to make flashcards at home for your child to practice these words. I know it seems early but I promise your kids are ready for this!! Some of the words we are learning are called sight words which means they can not be phonetically sounded out.....therefore they are just memorized by sight. That's is why the more they are exposed to these sight words the better!! They love reading their little books to their reading buddies!! We ran out of time and they made me promise that we would read them on Wednesday!! I love it!! :)
We played the name game to find out who has a letter Bb in their name. I opened up a new center this morning and you should have heard the girls squeal!! And the boys were mad that they didn't get a turn....I had to make another promise for Wednesday!! You would have thought I bought them a pony!! It is a writing center!!! It is a teacher's dream for students to be this excited to write words and letters!!!! There were color books available as well but most of the girls were looking at all of the charts and writing color words and making shapes and writing what they were drawing!!! My heart just skipped a beat thinking about it!! ;)
There you have it.....Another GROOVY day at Busy Bee Preschool!!
While we waited for the parade to start we kept busy by eating Emilee's yummy snack. She brought Bulldog chow and Bulldog water bottles too!
We blew bubbles!!
We made football puppets to wave to the football players and all of the parade participants.
It was fun to see all of the floats, the cheerleaders, band and of course the football players!!
But everyone knows the best part of the parade is the CANDY!! We hit the candy jackpot ! :)
Then we met at the park to end our fun day! Thanks to everyone who helped out today!!
I appreciate my Busy Bee parents so much!! :)
We had fun learning about bats today!! We read a non-fiction book and learned that bats eat fruit, fish, bugs and mice. They sleep upside down during the day and like to hunt at night. Ask your child if they can remember a fun fact about bats. Everyone remembered to wear something black today!! We sang our color song and learned how to spell the word black. We made a Black Bat art project and practiced counting bats too.
Drake brought bat snacks.....bat brownies and bat rice krispy treats!! He brought everyone a bat whistle too!! Thanks Drake! We learned a bat poem and watched Stellaluna (a story of a bat who was lost and was raised by birds) on video. We reviewed our Action Alphabet characters A the Alligator and B the Bear. Ask your child to tell you the sounds that these letters make! I am so proud of your kids!! They are doing a fantastic job!
Here is the song we learned today to help us remember how to spell the word black...
Look at these sweeties!! Sorry Trenton!! I cut off your black shoes! But we know you are wearing them! ;)
Today we read the classic story Brown Bear, Brown Bear. It is a great predictive book to help children learn their color words and some basic sight words. We have been working on the words....I, see, and a. We are working on our color words too. We made our very own Brown Bear book to take home and read. Please add this book to your child's book box at home.
Next everyone introduced their bears and we had fun singing and dancing with our bears! We made bear ears to wear too! Check out the video below and listen to your child sing the Teddy Bear Song.
We read another book about a bear looking for shapes called Bear in a Square. Then we made silly bears using all squares. Have your child count how many squares it took to make our bears.
Trenton brought the silliest bear snack ever!! It is a bear driving a car made with teddy grahams and candy!! The kids loved them! I don't know what they enjoyed more....driving them on their tables or eating them!! Trenton also brought teddy bear trail mix with all sorts of goodies inside including bear graham crackers and gummy bears too!
We took our bears outside and placed them all in the middle of a blanket. We held on to the edge of the blanket and said...
Bear, Bear, starts with B!
Bear, Bear, 1-2-3!
And then we tossed all of the bears up into the air! The kids were laughing so hard and wanted to do it again and again!! So we did!! ;)
Finally....I was so proud of the boys and girls for really listening during our math lesson today! We sorted M&Ms on our sorting mat and then we graphed how many of each color we had. Impressive, huh??!! The best part of the activity was eating the m&ms of course!!
As you can see......we had a BEARY good day learning at preschool! Check out my cuties!
Today we studied the letter Bb! We read a fun book that everyone loved called....Buzz, Buzz Busy Bees! It is a counting/rhyming book about bees who are just too busy to play with all of the animals on the farm. You must turn the last page of the book to activate the sound chip to hear the bees buzz and discover what they have been so busy making! And of course we had a lot of buzzing going on in our classroom too!! ;)
Next we practiced writing capital and lowercase letter Bs and we made a cute beehive and bees by cutting circles. Check out that nice handwriting!!
Ella brought super cute bumblebee treats to share at snack time and her mommy even made cute bee take home treats!! Thanks to all of my families for really making our preschool days even more special!! I hope you all know how much I appreciate all that you do!! :)
We read our Numbertales Book...Zero Spots. Monster Dot has lots of spots. So do Spike and Sue. But poor Monster Ugg has none, zilch, zero!! In the story Monster Ugg learns to appreciate his spotlessness and realizes it is pretty neat to be different. We talked about the numeral zero and did a worksheet that went with our story. Have your child share their monster paper with you.
Finally, we finished our day by singing our red song and doing a red paper. It might not seem like much at first glance but be sure to check out your child's amazing paper!!!!!! I was so excited to see how well they wrote the word red on their own!! Ask your child to spell red for you...I know they are all able to do this!! Now....ask them to write the word red!! Pretty good, huh???!!! Ok.....Am I bragging?? hee! hee! I am loving the extra time I can spend with your children!! Watch out Kindergarten....my Busy Bees are going to be sooooo ready to knock your socks off and it is only September!! ;)
And one last picture.......Everyone must see all of my girls. They were all sporting bee shirts for our special day! (boys....I am going to order some busy bee shirts in blue and not soooo cutsie so you can sport some bees too!!)
Aren't they adorable??!!!
ok.....I promise I am almost done! My posts have been rather long but I just have too much to share!! I apologize for not putting a newsletter in the folders today. I just haven't finalized my Friday plans for next week. I would like to take the kids to the Odessa Homecoming Parade but am trying to figure out when it is and if it will work in our schedule. I will let everyone know what the plan is on Monday. If you would like to go to the parade with us just send me a text and let me know. I could use a few moms to help transport the kids to town. Thanks in advance for your help.
We made a Black Bat art project and a bat counting book too. Jackson brought blacks snacks.....oreos and cool water bottles. We learned a bat poem and watched Stellaluna on video. We reviewed our Action Alphabet characters A the Alligator and B the Bear. Ask your child to tell you the sounds that these letters make! I am so proud of your kids!! They are doing a fantastic job! They are always on task and it makes my job so much more fun!
Today was so much fun learning about letter Bb! We sang the Black Song. . .(you can find this on the Just for Fun page under color songs!) We started to sing it and Nick already knew the words!! He has been practicing the songs on the website! I was so proud of him and I love that students are using the site as well!! We read about bats and discovered that they like to eat bugs, (gross!) fruit, fish and mice. We made a Black Bat picture too. We went around to share our black clothing that we wore today. Sorry...I should have taken a picture of all of our cool black clothes!! :( We made a Bat book too where we practiced writing our numbers. Have your child write their numbers 1 - 5 for you. Brady brought Bat cupcakes to eat for snacks with purple icing!! . . everyone had purple faces and fingers too! Thanks Brady!! He even wore his Batman shirt today. . . good thinkin'!!
Today we read the very popular book. . . Brown Bear, Brown Bear by Bill Martin Jr. This book reinforces colors, color words and because it has predictive text it is perfect for beginning readers. Some of the students were able to pick out the color words in the text!! (especially the word red because we have worked so hard on that word!!) We made a story bag to bring home to retell the story. The best part of the story bag is that you can retell the story over and over again and in any order. Listen to your child retell the story. Nick brough Brown Bear Cinnamon Biscuits that were "beary" good!! He even brought honey and butter to put on the bears. These were so cute! Again. . . .I love when the students make that learning connection through all of their senses! It is pretty funny though when they want to save their treat and not eat it because it is too cute!! I just tell them they have to eat it now or we would probably never eat snacks!! It looks like we will get to play outside all week long!! Yippee!
Learning about letter Bb was "Beary" fun!! We brought our bears to school today. We danced with our bears and took turns sharing about our bears. When we did our school work our bears took a nap in our cubbies. We made bear ears to wear and we read a story called Bear in a Square. We reviewed all of our shapes and made a Square Bear out of . . . you guessed it. . . . squares!! Makennah brought bear cookies and teddy grahams to share with everyone. They were so cute! Thanks Makennah! We went outside for about ten minutes to enjoy this beautiful weather. We finished our day getting Busy Bee Treats for having green days at school. We decided we should get two today. . . . one for bear too!
