We read a cute story about an Elephant and made our letter Ee books to keep at school in our reading box. I had to share what a few of my boys did today at center time. There are tons of toys to choose from....trains, legos, blocks, etc....but instead they chose to go to the writing table and write me letters for my mailbox!! OK.....seriously.....don't you just love it???!!! Choosing to write over playing with toys??!! I love teaching and I love trying to make learning fun so they do make these choices!! Check out Jack's handwriting.... Pretty good, huh?! All of the students love to make something for me to put in my mailbox but I told them it can not be delivered unless it has my name on it and who it is from. (I am pretty sneaky about it but they are getting lots of practice and they don't even know it!! hee!)
Ella brought the cutest elephant cookies from our favorite bakery The Mixing Bowl!! Sorry...but I couldn't resist a shout out to my good friend Mary Bertram!! ;) When Ella was passing out her cookies the kids were shouting...."Hey Ella, your name starts with E just like elephant!!" Aren't they smart??!! Thanks Ella for the fun snack! :)
We read a story about shapes and then we sorted shapes at circle time. Finally, we did a worksheet where we had to find all of the triangles.
Ella brought me this adorable pumpkin today!! Isn't her mommy crafty??!! Thank you so much for making me feel special today!! :)
We read a book about different animals that hatch from eggs. I gave the students clues so they could guess the animals. They love playing guessing games! We made a list of words that start with Ee and practiced our handwriting. Below you can see the students cutting out egg shapes. They had to color the eggs with pictures that started with E and put glue them to the hen's nest. You can see how busy they are!! I love watching them work! :)
Trenton and his mommy made rice krispy treats and put them inside of plastic eggs!! The kids were so excited to open the eggs!! I love how Trenton painted the egg cartons and check out the E on top!! Thanks for the extraordinary snack Trenton!!
We played a counting game and read the book One Little Egg.
We did one of our favorite activities.....Buddy reading!!
And we practiced graphing today!!
We reviewed our Letter of the Day ......Dd!! We read about our Alphatale friend Detective Dog. She was on the hunt for some donuts that disappeared from the diner. We helped her follow the clues to find the donuts. The trail of donut dust led her to a door!! When Detective Dog walked through the door it was very dark!! Ask your child what happened next??!! (Detective Dog's friends surprised her with a birthday party!! There were lots of donuts and dancing at the party!!)
Gradyn brought us dog bones to eat at snack time!!! Ok.....they were really dog bone cookies!!
We did some number and color recognition practice and worked at the carpet using clipboards! Anything to change it up....and they think using clipboards to do their work is so cool!!
We played a counting game at circle time and we made our letter Dd book. We also finished up our Counting Coconuts book. We had fun reading all of our books to our reading buddies!!
We practiced writing letter Dd and worked on our sight words and phonics too. We also played outside with our friends. As you can see we had a pretty Dog-gone good Monday!! I had to include a picture of our favorite dog......Kirby!! He loves Preschool.....the kids love him and he knows it!! They spoil him rotten! Not to mention all of the snacks he gets to clean up off of the floor! He is looking pretty shabby!! He goes to the groomer tomorrow! :)
Check out these cuties!! Yes....you guessed it!! They are all wearing dogs on their shirts!!
What a fun day with a great bunch of kiddos!! Thank you to all of my moms that helped out today! I appreciate you more than you know. I would also like to thank Terrie at Butterfly Fields for a great field trip! The kids had fun running through the hay maze, playing in the corn box, going on a hayride and picking out their pumpkins!! It was a little cold but we had lots of fun!!
Before we left for the day we read a silly story about a giant pumpkin. We played a pumpkin math game to practice number recognition and we had Ayden's pumpkin cookie snacks!! Check out his fun milk jug that looks like a jack-o-lantern!! Thanks Ayden!!
Butterfly Fields Pumpkin Patch, Odessa, MO
And we ran into some of my favorite peeps while we were there!! :)
We read If the Dinosaurs came back by Bernard Most and had fun using our imaginations and thinking of other silly things that the dinosaurs could do with us if they came back! We talked about how dinosaurs are extinct and we painted a dinosaur too. We practiced writing letter Dd and played a counting game at circle time.
Tristen brought yummy sugar cookies and Dinosaur fruit snacks to share today. Thanks Tristen!!
We are learning the Alphabet forwards and backwards song....yes I said backwards!! Give us a couple of weeks and then I bet your kiddo can do it all on their own!! All in all I would say we had a DINO-mite day!! :)
Leave a comment if your child has been singing the ZYX's.....the backwards alphabet!! :)
We read our new Alphabet Friend Book Cathy Cook. She liked to cook all sorts of things that start with letter Cc like cookies, cupcakes, candy, carrots, corn and cauliflower. We talked about healthy food and junk food and sorted some food pictures into each category. We went upstairs to the kitchen and we made our very own yummy cupcakes! We talked about how to follow a recipe and what could happen if you didn't. Everyone took turns in the kitchen and they loved wearing their chef hats!!
We made a chef project...I loved seeing everyone's hair!! They turned out so cute!
After our cupcakes cooled we had fun decorating them to look like cats!!
Thanks Jack for sending in all of the goodies to help us decorate our cupcakes!!
I sure was glad to get my two sweet boys back!! They were gone on vacation all last week and I missed them like crazy!! Welcome back Tristen and Ayden!! :)
Today we read the book Little Cloud by Eric Carle. We went outside and looked at the clouds to see what we thought they were shaped like.....lion, rabbit, tree, a person and lots of others!! What do you think the cloud looks like below??? I think I might see an alligator!
We had fun at circle time counting clouds and then we did this worksheet where we rolled a die and wrote the number. Then we glued the correct number of cotton balls to our clouds. I was pretty impressed with some of their numeral writing!! :)
Harley is definitely getting us ready for Halloween! She brought pumpkin cookies and ghost brownies for snack today! Thanks Harley!
We made a counting flip book and worked on our letter Cc handwriting too.
The highlight of the day was definitely cloud writing!! We practiced writing our letters, numbers and names in the clouds!! (shaving cream!) Lots of laughing went on during this activity!! At first they didn't want to put their finger in it to write and the next thing I know they are covered!! They are already asking when we get to do this again!! :)
We read our Alphatale book called Copycats. Clyde and Cleo the two silly cats were always copying off of one another and trying to outdo each other. It was all fun and games until they both spilled their cups of cocoa! We played a copycat game and practiced writing all of the letters in the alphabet. The handwriting today was AMAZING!!!! Gabriella gave everyone a cat sticker to put on their copycat paper today!! Thanks Gabs!! :)
We read Pete the Cat I Love my White Shoes. We played a color game at circle time and made a color word book too. I have been keeping their books that they have been making so we can read them to their reading buddies. Have your child sing you the Pete the Cat song below.
Gradyn is holding the card game we played at circle time. The game helps students recognize their color words. They begged me to play it over and over again!! I love it when they think we are just playing a game and I can see so much learning happening!! Pretty sneaky, huh??!!
OMG!! Aren't these the Ccccutest Ccccats you ever have seen???!!! The kids loved them! Everyone was "meowing" during snack time!! Check out Gabriella's cat shirt!! She is adorable!! Thanks Gabriella!
Gabs and I both decided that everyone should see her whole cat outfit.....
Finally, we sang our color song B-L-A-C-K! And we made scary cats!! Have your child sing the Black song for you.
Today we read another silly Pete the Cat book about about his yellow shirt with 4 groovy buttons!! Baylor brought snacks today to go along with our story! Everyone had fun counting the m&m buttons on the rice krispy shirts!! Thanks for the GROOVY snacks today Baylor!! :) We decided to use Pete's head and button from Baylor's snack to make a project. I think they turned out super cute!
Listen to the story with your child so they can show you what they learned today!! I think you will be pretty impressed! We talked about subtraction!! Preschoolers subtracting??!! Pretty smart, huh??!! Seriously though they really did a great job with the concept of starting with a number and then taking one or more away. We played a button counting game today at circle time so they could have some hands on counting, adding and subtracting practice.
We played a button counting game today at circle time so they could have some hands on counting, adding and subtracting practice.
We made our letter Bb book to keep at school. We are adding Buzz words that we see in our little readers. We will continue to practice these words everyday at school and add to our list when we make our new books. You might want to make flashcards at home for your child to practice these words. I know it seems early but I promise your kids are ready for this!! Some of the words we are learning are called sight words which means they can not be phonetically sounded out.....therefore they are just memorized by sight. That's is why the more they are exposed to these sight words the better!! They love reading their little books to their reading buddies!! We ran out of time and they made me promise that we would read them on Wednesday!! I love it!! :)
We played the name game to find out who has a letter Bb in their name. I opened up a new center this morning and you should have heard the girls squeal!! And the boys were mad that they didn't get a turn....I had to make another promise for Wednesday!! You would have thought I bought them a pony!! It is a writing center!!! It is a teacher's dream for students to be this excited to write words and letters!!!! There were color books available as well but most of the girls were looking at all of the charts and writing color words and making shapes and writing what they were drawing!!! My heart just skipped a beat thinking about it!! ;)
There you have it.....Another GROOVY day at Busy Bee Preschool!!
While we waited for the parade to start we kept busy by eating Emilee's yummy snack. She brought Bulldog chow and Bulldog water bottles too!
We blew bubbles!!
We made football puppets to wave to the football players and all of the parade participants.
It was fun to see all of the floats, the cheerleaders, band and of course the football players!!
But everyone knows the best part of the parade is the CANDY!! We hit the candy jackpot ! :)
Then we met at the park to end our fun day! Thanks to everyone who helped out today!!
I appreciate my Busy Bee parents so much!! :)
