Bear Day is always a big hit!! We took turns introducing our bears and telling each other their names. We read the book Square Bear and talked a lot about shapes. Then we made our very own square bear out of different sized squares! They did a great job on their scissor skills! I think the bears turned out so cute! Next we practiced writing the capital and lowercase Bb. Isabella brought bear graham crackers for us to eat for snacks. "Beary" good idea Isabella! ;) Finally, we took our bears out to play!! We put them on a blanket and chanted....Bear, Bear begins with B! Make them fly....1, 2, 3! And then we tossed the bears into the air and watched them fly! They giggled so much and begged me to do it over and over and over and over (ok....You get the picture!!) again!!
We read a counting book about bees. We practiced counting the bees on each page and at the very end of the book there was a surprise!!! The bees actually started buzzing! The kids love this book and it is always fun to see their faces light up when they hear the buzzing! We practiced our fine motor skills by putting tiny bee stickers on our letter Bb paper. We also did our first pokey pin paper. I give the students pokey pins (push pins) and they trace the outline of the letter or picture. They love to see the end result of the holes that make up the letter. Lilly brought Busy Bee treats. They were super cute!! Take a peek below....they are honey comb treats with goodies inside and a bumble bee sitting on top!! Lilly also brought Bue koolaid Bursts to help us learn about the letter B!
Today we had fun reading and learning about the letter Aa. We listened to our Alphatale story The Adventures of Abby the Alligator on CD. Then we sang a song about an alligator. We played a number matching game and then we made an alligator counting project where the students had to cut and paste the alligator's teeth in numerical order. We worked on handwriting and we enjoyed playing outside in this beautiful weather!! Hope it lasts! Brooklyn brought adorable alligator cookies and apple juice for snack time today. They were super fun and yummy too! Thanks Brooklyn! :) Enjoy the pictures from our day and I found a cute alligator video on youtube for the kids to watch.
Today we read a non-fiction book about ants. This book was fascinating to the students. They loved learning interesting facts about these little insects. Ask your child to tell you something they learned about ants. I gave them each a mini magnifying glass and we headed outside to do some investigating!! We found a few ants and counted lots of legs. It was so fun to watch the students in action!! They were soooooo excited when they found an ant! I have a feeling they will all be looking for bugs when I send them home. We learned a funny new song and dance called Dance like you've got Ants in your Pants....you can find it on our Just for Fun Page. Have your child dance for you!! We made an Ants in the Pants craft and we worked on writing the lowercase "a". Izzy Miles brought Ant cupcakes to eat for snacks!! They were Amazingly cute!! They were decorated with green grass and a little slice of watermelon for the ant!! Check them out below to see how cute they were! Thanks Izzy for helping to make our day fun! :) I really had a newsletter all printed up and ready to send home but after I dismissed everyone I walked over to my desk and yep.....there the newsletters sat!! Sorry! I really am trying to encourage everyone to check here anyways...it is so much more fun to see the pictures of all of the students and I can put more details here too. Have a great weekend. On Monday we will continue to work on letter Aa and learn about alligators!
Today we talked about the letter Aa. We reviewed our Sing and Read Story, Apple Annie. We practiced our handwriting and our sight words...is and for. You may want to make flash cards with our sight words on them and practice with your child at home. Have your child read their letter A paper to you. We also reviewed our Apple Poem that we learned on Monday but the students were most excited about our Apple math lesson today! We played a Roll and Count Dice game and they loved it! Nothing could make me happier than seeing the kids excited about learning!! I have a feeling we will be playing dice games to reinforce counting a lot in our classroom! Anna brought Letter A snacks to share.....Animal Crackers and Apple Juice!! Thanks Anna! So far learning about letter Aa has been Amazing!
Today we started our Alphabet Adventure!! We read about our Alphabet friend Apple Annie and used our big chart to search for letter Aa's. We learned an apple poem that the students enjoyed acting out and made an apple art project too. We practiced our handwriting and worked at our centers. Hannah brought yummy applesauce and apple juice to share for snack time. Don't forget......Book orders are due on Wednesday.
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! Say it again!! That is what I heard all day long!! Jansen sounded like he was a rapper!! It was so funny! The kids loved LOVED this book. It is always a favorite every year. I like to read this to kick off the start of our Alphabet Adventure where we learn a letter and sound a week. I realize that several students know most of their letters and sounds from last year but review is always good and I try my best to keep it challenging by adding sight words, as well as reading and math activities. Today the students had fun making their very own Chicka Chicka Boom Boom coconut tree with the letters of their names. We had fun counting how many letters were in different names. We also made an alphabet book where the students traced all of the capital letters. I gave them a Coconut Tree pointer for being a Busy Bee today. They love using my teacher pointers to find letters around the room so I thought this would be great to get them to read more at home. Have them use their pointer when they read books to you. Then you can ask them to point to a particular letter or even a sight word we have been working on.
Kendall helped make our day even more fun by bringing Chicka Chicka Boom Boom trees to eat! They were super cute celery stalks with peanut butter and cheez it alphabet crackers climbing the tree just like the story!! The trees even had coconuts growing on them!! (blueberries....how clever!) We watched the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom video while we had our snacks. I thought the kids might like to watch it again so I put a link below.
Finally, we reviewed our sight words and sang our red song before being dismissed. It was a great learning day. I hope everyone has a fun weekend! See you on Monday! :)
Today we talked about all things RED! We made a list of red things and we learned a song about the color red. You can see the words in the picture below. Everyone wore something red to school too! We made a red book and Jackson brought red snacks to share! Thanks Jackson!! We watched Clifford the Big RED Dog and made some cute Clifford ears to wear. We also learned three sight words...YES....week two and we are already learning sight words!! I have a crazy smart class! :) We did some shared reading where the students took turns reading to their partners. I hope your child had a chance to read their red book to you at home. I really want them to keep all of the books they make so they can go back and read them throughout the year. You may choose to put their books in a basket or a tub or you may choose to have your child decorate a book box to keep them in. Before bed time maybe they could pick out one of their books and read it to someone or to themselves. If you have a quiet time or nap time you could have them look at their books at that time as well. The more they familiarize themselves with text and books the better readers they will become. We had a really fun RED DAY!!
If you have never read this book.....it is a MUST!! Go check it out at the library or I think it is even in our September book order forms that I am sending home on Wednesday. It is a really cute story about teamwork and how much prettier pictures are if you use all sorts of colors in the crayon box rather than one. To start off our lesson I put a box of crayons up to my ear and pretended to hear them talk! Then we passed the box around....it was so funny to see the students really, REALLY listening to hear what the crayons were saying!! I heard lots of giggles!! After reading our story we made a book about colors. The students had to find the color word (YEAH!!! Reading already!! yes....I am doing the happy dance!!) and circle the word with the correct color. Then we colored our pictures and we sang our book to help us remember the words!! I wanted to keep the books so we could review them another day before sending them home. I really do not like when we do not bring something home to share but I also think it is more important to practice with it and then send it home so that you can see how much learning is taking place. Ava and her mommy made crayons to eat for snack!! They were absolutely adorable!! The kids didn't even want to eat them all so they could bring them home to share!! They were super cute pretzel sticks dipped in colored chocolate and wrapped in crayon papers!! @ TIffany....that was A LOT of work but if you could have seen the kids faces...they LOVED them!! And Ava was soooo proud!! I think that is why I like snack time and I like to see the kids involved because they have such a sense of pride and responsibility. We are off to a super start!! See you on Wednesday! :)
Today we read The Little Engine that Could and talked about how we should never give up. Even when things seem tough just try your best and say....I THINK I CAN!! We finished making our "All About Me Books" and reviewed our school rule posters. Shannon brought yummy donuts for snack and we went outside to enjoy the beautiful weather! This class is going to be awesome!! They can't wait to start working! I always love to see how much they mature over the summer. I am going to have an advanced group. They choose to do the "work" or activities I have at each center instead of the toys!! Everyone stayed on the green beehive!!! Mrs. Manning is one happy teacher!! :) Don't forget to send in your trains on Monday!
We had fun playing outside today! We were missing our sweet Anna today. Day two and she is already sick. Hope you feel better soon!!
