Learning about letter Bb was "Beary" fun!! We brought our bears to school today. We danced with our bears and took turns sharing about our bears. When we did our school work our bears took a nap in our cubbies. We made bear ears to wear and we read a story called Bear in a Square. We reviewed all of our shapes and made a Square Bear out of . . . you guessed it. . . . squares!! Makennah brought bear cookies and teddy grahams to share with everyone. They were so cute! Thanks Makennah! We went outside for about ten minutes to enjoy this beautiful weather. We finished our day getting Busy Bee Treats for having green days at school. We decided we should get two today. . . . one for bear too!
Not only did we read and learn about Busy Bees . . . we worked like Busy Bees too! We practiced counting lots of bees in one of our stories. We practiced writing the letter Bb and we played the guessing game where I give clues and the students have to guess what I have in my hand. . . and of course it must start with the letter we are learning. We learned a song about bees and we painted bees too. Rylee and Brianna both wore their "Bee" outfits and Brianna brought super cute bumble bee cupcakes to help us learn about the letter Bb!! She brought bee tattoos to share too!! It was an un"bee"lievable day of learning!!
We read The Adventures of Abby Alligator today and made an Alligator book filled with pages that helped us learn to recognize the letter A and the sound A makes. We also played an Alligator matching game to help us recognize our numbers. We counted Mr. Alligators teeth and glued them on. Have your child count the teeth for you at home. We also worked on writing letter Aa. We made Alligator Swamp Floats for snacks today with lime sherbert and Sprite. We used marshmallows and chocolate for the eyes! We will work on letter Bb on Wednesday.
I thought these phonics videos were so catchy and fun to watch. It is amazing how much more children can learn though song. . . . and they love animation too! Each time you and your child visit our site have them watch the letter video that we are studying.
Today we read about ants. We learned that they make nests underground and they make anthills above ground. They have three sections to their body and they grow from eggs. Everyone was very fascinated about ants so we took our looking glasses and went outside to see if we could find any. NO ants!! But we did find spiders, grasshoppers, some weird bug and even some frogs!! We learned a new funny song/dance called "Dance like you've got Ants in your Pants!" Check out the video on our Just for fun page! Scroll down to the Silly Song section and you will find it! Have your child do the movements for you!! We counted ants and glued them to a pair of pants. We practiced writing our numbers too! We sang Happy Birthday to Keegan who is now five years old!! He brought yummy Ant cupcakes to share.......there were even anthills on the cupcakes (oreos!!) I am so impressed with all of my creative families!! Thanks again for a fun snack! Learning letter Aa is so much fun!
Today we finally finished our "crayon boxes" that we have been working on!! They were a lot of work but they turned out great!! Everyone had a chance to read to me today..........and everyone knows all of their colors!! Now we will concentrate on learning some of our color words!! How exciting! Have your child read you their crayon sentences inside their crayon boxes. I think you will be very proud! :)
We also worked on letter Aa today. We discussed words that have the A sound and we practiced writing our capital A and lowercase a. Joey brought ants for us to eat today!! They were really raisins but we sure do like to pretend! He gave everyone a bag of ants to put on their graham crackers. Let me just say that we had fun during snack time today! Joey also brought apple juice to share. Learning letter A sure is tasty!!
Today we met our friend Apple Annie. For those of you who are returning from the Little Bees class we will be reading the same Alphabet Friend stories. I feel repetition is really great for young learners. However, we will be doing totally different activities in our classroom. We learned our Appple Annie song (see below) and an apple poem today.........You will find it on our apple activity that was sent home. Have your child recite the poem. We practiced writing the capital A today. When we write the letter A we say. . . . slant down, slant down, across. Have your child make the letter A for you. We finished our Chicka Chicka Boom Boom trees and we went outside for a short play time. We sang Happy Birthday to Rylee!! She turned five. She brought a really fun letter A snack to share. . . . apple dippers from McDonalds. . . .one of her favorites. . . .and super cute Apple Rice Krispy treats! Yummy!
We had a great Monday! It is amazing how quickly kids can get into a routine!! I am really proud of my Busy Bees!
Today we read an all time Alphabet favorite. . . . Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!! The kids just giggle every time they say those silly words! We talked about how every letter makes a sound and groups of letters make words and that's how you learn to read. We made a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Alphabet Book today. The students had to trace their alphabet. Even if your child can write letters independently tracing is still an important fine motor activity for all to do. They earned a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom pointer for their Busy Bee Treat today if they stayed on green or yellow all week. They think it is fun to use a pointer to read or search for letters. Have them read their book to you. We also made a big coconut tree art project but we didn't get it completed. Monday we must finish up two of our projects so we can get them sent home!! Sometimes I plan a little too much to squeeze into one day!! We definitely keep busy that's for sure!! Jase brought coconut trees for us to eat at snack time!! OK... ... ...they weren't real coconut trees but they were super cute! They were celery with peanut butter and alphabet crackers were climbing the tree just like in the story!! There were coconuts (red grapes) on the trees too. Thanks for all of the fun snacks parents!! The kids can't wait to see what we are having next!! (oh . . . and me too!!) Have a great weekend! I am going to try to catch up on some cleaning!!
Happy Red Day!! Today we had so much fun learning about the color RED!! We made a RED book, sang a song about the color RED, and even ate RED snacks!! We had a surprise visitor leave us a special treat in our room. Ask your child who left them something in our classroom??!!
Cole brought Clifford the Big RED Dog cookies and RED punch to drink. We made Clifford the Big RED Dog ears to wear and we watched a Clifford video! We had a super fun RED day today!
Have your child find some things that are red in your house. Have them spell the word red. . . . I bet they can do it!! We practiced all day today! :)
Today we read a book about a box of crayons that didn't start off too nice. They didn't really like each other too well until a little girl bought the box of crayons and took them home to make a beautiful picture. She used all of the crayons in the box to make her picture and the crayons realized they were much better when they worked together. We talked about using lots of different colors when we do our school work. We also talked about color words. We played a color matching game and we are making a crayon reading project to go in our book boxes at home. We should be able to finish them up on Wednesday and take them home on Friday.
Alex and his family made a really cute snack to help us practice our colors. They were little "crayon" pretzels dipped in chocolate and colored sugar. These were definitely a lot of work but the kids LOVED them!! Some of them didn't want to eat them because they were so cute!! Thank you for being so creative! During snack we watched Harold and the Purple Crayon. We all thought Harold should definitely use more crayons when he makes his pictures!!
We took a little time to share our train projects that the students worked on at home. Thank you for your help. . . they turned out so good! We are hanging them on our bulletin board for everyone to see! We have been working on our song "I Think I Can". . . ask your child to sing it for you. The lyrics are in the picture below and go to the tune of She'll be Coming Around the Mountain.
*****Don't forget to wear something RED to school on Wednesday!!
